Our treatment model: former users helping users.

Detoxification Treatments

Our ibogaine treatments differ for each person, the variables including substance used, length of time addicted, combination with other drugs, state of mind/emotion, preparation and experience with other mind-journey medicines. This is no cookie-cutter approach to ibogaine therapy: each client is the only client we care about, and at the center of concern is your comfort, from the moment you arrive to prepare for your ibogaine therapy.

Here are some general features of the detox: before arrangements for a schedule, you’ll have an ECG (EKG) and fax us the results. At the home-like environment of the treatment center you’ll have one or two days to relax and prepare for your ibogaine procedure. Just relax, eat good food, hydrate and build up some much-needed strength. This is a good time to consolidate your intentions, or your wishes for the outcome of the iboga therapy. You’ll spend some time getting to know us, too, and engage in some physical activity such as yoga, qui gong or long walks.

Day of Treatment

You’ll have a light breakfast, then spend the day casually, taking a light nap. A ‘spiritual bath’ is taken, and a few more unobtrusive ceremonies are observed. By sundown, the administration of ibogaine will begin. The setting and pace will be very carefully controlled to provide you with an experience as comfortable as possible. For what to expect from the medicine experience, there are many accounts of experiences available online, however, no matter how many experiences you read or hear about, yours will be distinct. We therefore don’t recommend reading a lot of accounts.

We do want to stress that ibogaine is not a bull’s-eye shot against your addiction. It is a tool to be used to improve your chances of being drug free. If you take as much ibogaine as we give you, you will have greatly reduced withdrawals and cravings. Most people agree that opiate withdrawals, for example, are at least 80% eliminated by a flood dose of ibogaine.

Our embrace of Bwiti technology is manifest in most treatments. If music, interaction and other aspects of our protocol are not working for our clients we can quickly change the style of treatment. Most western protocols call for a quiet, darkened empty room; we can provide that for clients who prefer it.

Keep in mind that ibogaine is an ONEIROPHRENIC and not an ‘hallucinogenic.’ It is not usually comparable to mushroom or LSD experiences. It is a serious alteration of state, and twists one’s perceptions for an extended period when taken in high doses. Many people, though not all, experience visions and insights.

Typical Side Effects

Side effects vary person to person. It’s good to be aware that nausea and vomiting occur in many cases. Sometimes we include anti-nausea medicines to combat this tendancy. The first eight to sixteen hours are usually accompanied by ATAXIA, acute uncoordination.

Discomfort, including some post acute withdrawal symptoms, will be present in most cases.

Most problematic is the side effect of sleeplessness. There are natural and prescription treatments for lack of sleep after an ibogaine flood dose, but bear in mind these remedies may not work during this period. Sleeplessness is simply part of what we must accept when deciding upon ibogaine therapy. Those detoxing from opiates will experience more sleeplessness than others.

Post-Therapy

Detoxing from your problematic drug by having an ibogaine treatment is only a first step. What is your plan for the rest of your recovery? Most of the staff of IbogaLife are in the recovery process, and we encourage you to share your obstacles to a drug-free life. After your ibogaine treatment, what environment will you go back to, and is it healthy and ‘clean’? If you have a partner or spouse, how will they help or hinder your desire to be drug free? What more can you do to ensure that you’ve given yourself enough time to begin a thorough recovery?

We can also refer you to programs that may help you. And we will encourage you to find a therapist near where you live, and can provide likely candidates for you to try out.
